Sweeper Summit 2026 Preview: Inside Episode 1 of Gutter Talk with Scott Duscher thumbnail

Welcome to the inaugural episode of Gutter Talk, the official podcast of the Sweeper Summit, where the street sweeping industry gets real. Hosted by Timm Morrison (affectionately known as "Sweeper Man"), this episode dives into the trenches of the trade with a true industry veteran: Scott Duscher, Owner and Manager of Agua Trucks in Phoenix, Arizona.

If you're building a power sweeping or municipal maintenance business from the ground up, Scott's journey from a single truck to becoming a highly respected leader is packed with actionable insights—the exact kind of foundational knowledge and professional development you can expect to find at Sweeper Summit 2026.

The Genesis of Agua Trucks

Scott's entry into the sweeping industry was born out of necessity. Coming from a background as a Vice President of Construction for a homebuilder, his initial focus was on water sourcing and land development. He bought his first water truck to combat dust and handle storm trackout.

The company name, "Agua Trucks," was a natural fit—not only did they start as a water truck operation, but Scott also happened to live on a street named Agua Drive. To maintain business consistency during downtimes, he eventually purchased a used Husky sweeper, marking the true beginning of his sweeping empire.

The Power of Networking in the Street Sweeping Industry

As his business grew, Scott realized that running an operation in a niche industry without any guidance was an uphill battle. A pivotal moment in his career came when he bought his second used sweeper from a man who simply asked him, "You're going to NPE, right?"

This simple nudge pushed Scott to attend his first major industry trade show, launching his long-term involvement with organizations like 1-800-SWEEPER and NAPSA. Scott attributes much of his success to surrounding himself with the industry's "heavy hitters" and leaning on associations for guidance. As he advises newcomers today: joining an organization isn't enough; you have to actively get involved, shake hands, and build a network of peers you can rely on when things go sideways.

Finding Your Niche and Delivering Value

For those looking to diversify their sweeping businesses—like breaking into homeowner associations (HOAs)—Scott emphasizes mastering your core lane first. His background in construction allowed him to deeply understand what site managers needed. He stresses that customers generally don't care about the specific make and model of your sweeper; they only care that the road is clean and the job is done quietly and effectively.

A Noble Profession: Clean Streets = Cleaner Water

One of the most inspiring segments of the episode highlights the shifting perception of the sweeping industry. Through the new Clean Streets = Cleaner Water (CS=CW) initiative—spearheaded alongside partners like the National Municipal Stormwater Alliance (NMSA)—there is a growing realization that sweeping goes far beyond just picking up aesthetic trash.

Sweeping professionals are actively removing lethal toxins, heavy metals, and harmful dust from roadways before they can enter local water supplies. At its core, power sweeping is an essential environmental best practice that protects our communities.

The episode also looks forward to the upcoming Sweeper Summit 2026, the world's largest power sweeping industry conference and Outdoor Equipment Expo. Taking place this November at the beautiful La Cantera Resort and Spa in San Antonio, Texas, the event is the premier destination for networking and hands-on education.

Scott highly recommends attending not just for the manufacturer roundtables and keynotes, but for the invaluable camaraderie.
